Number of autism-linked genes more than triples in new analyses

A new preprint has expanded the list of high-confidence autism-linked genes to 253, more than tripling the previous count. Two related analyses examine how variants in these genes contribute to genetic susceptibility and reveal shared biological pathways. The research also explores connections between these genes and other conditions.

What this means for clinicians: Growing gene lists may eventually inform more precise diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for autistic individuals.
