Social Club Opens Doors For Neurodivergent Young Adults
A father in St. Petersburg, Florida launched "Fun on the Spectrum St. Pete," a monthly social club for autistic adults ages 20 to 29, after his son struggled to make friends as an adult. Since May, the group has been meeting at local venues to help neurodivergent young adults build social connections. About ten members attend each meetup, using structured conversation activities to get to know one another.
What this means for families: Parent-led social clubs can offer autistic young adults a low-pressure setting to build friendships after school-based supports end.
